Medical Skin Needling
Medical Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy is considered to be another useful and successful tool in the armament of the cosmetic practitioner in the fight against the signs of ageing.
Used in combination with tried and tested professional skincare products it can have a significant effect on the appearance of the skin with minimal downtime and discomfort.
Treatment is aimed at stimulating the body's own collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, dilated pores, stretch marks, skin laxity and scarring caused by acne or chicken pox.
The treatment introduces a series of fine, sharp needles into the skin following the administration of a topical local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort. The tiny needles are attached to a single use, sterile roller which is moved over the surface of the skin to create microscopic channels into the papillary dermal layer of the skin where collagen and elastin fibres are located. The "damage" to the dermis encourages the body to literally "repair" itself by inducing an inflammatory response and producing new collagen and elastin.
Although benefits can be seen after 1 treatment, a course of 3 treatments (repeated 6 weeks apart) is recommended to optimise the results. Thereafter the procedure can be repeated every 6 months or as often as desired.
Medical Skin Needling is suitable for all skin types, can be performed on any area and can also be combined with other treatments if desired.
